It is my intention to revisit the Kyron Horman disappearance / investigation approximately once a month – to highlight potential developments.
At the risk of immediately losing some readers, it is clear that there are no significant investigative breakthroughs. However, there are some interesting, even bizarre, developments. Moreover, I’d like to clarify some of my own comments regarding this case.
Searches of areas (Northwest Germantown and Newberry roads, as well as the Northwest Skyline district) have recently been conducted – reportedly with no success. Further searches are planned. Exactly why these searches were not conducted a year ago is not clear. For those who are not familiar with the Portland Metro region, the stated areas are relatively close-in, while still maintaining a somewhat rural, sometimes wild and difficult to access nature.
Kaine Horman, Kyron’s father, has acquired a purple quarter-inch Mohawk as a tribute to his son. Apparently, this is something Kyron wanted to do.
Clarification of some of my past statements:
The actual wording of the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution states that a person shall not be “compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself.” Court decisions have subsequently ruled that this protection is also available in certain civil cases, wherein defendants are facing criminal charges.
Secondly, I received a lot of blow-back over my oft referenced comment that Terri Horman should be charged with Capital Murder, based on ‘what we know.’ This was a comment that should have been considered a shot from the hip in response to a reader’s question. It was based on my frustration with the lack of progress in this case, and my concern for the whereabouts of Kyron. At that particular juncture, I couldn’t have cared less if Terri was acquitted if there was a outside possibility that the trial and testimony under oath could assist in locating Kyron. That was, no doubt, not a professional opinion – more a human one.
If, worst case scenario, Terri was subjected to a criminal trial and acquitted – well, they tried. At that point a civil trial could commence, and there is a strong likelihood that she would be held civilly responsible for Kyron’s disappearance, with resulting monetary penalties, and loss of custody rights involving her daughter. Is this enough? No, but I’d rather that than allowing this case to become a cold case that drags on into the uncharted future.
Option: Stay the course and trust the authorities. A bitter pill, I must say.
True Nelson

I agree with you True. I have vacillated on the Terri question since Kyron disappeared. One fact that cannot be ignored is that Terri gave up all parental rights as far as Kiara. Terri’s supporters say she is just following advice from her lawyer, but if you really had no deliberate involvement in the disappearance of your stepchild, why would you follow that advice? Even if she was involved in another crime, unrelated to Kyron, what did she do that was so bad that she is willing to give up access to her baby? Yes, LE should be charging her and going to trial. There is obviously enough there when you look at what Terri is willing to accept. She lives with her parents, is unemployable, a social pariah, and without her daughter. Then we look at law enforcement. WTH are they doing? At first, I thought they had an actual plan and a theory of what happened to Kyron, but, we’ve been waiting and waiting, and nothing. They’re searching again now? Why, based on what? According to what I’ve read, they are searching areas they’ve always planned to, but couldn’t get around to until now. Wow. This investigation was botched at the start. The SA took it over and decided that the only way to save it was to keep public disclosure to a minimum – which meant zero information to the community. If it is true that Kyron did not leave Skyline with Terri Horman, then shouldn’t LE be producing a description of who Kyron did leave with, in the interest of public safety? If Kyron left with a sex offender, how is that an isolated incident, even if Terri is involved? I really thought there was a plan that MCSO, in conjunction with the FYI, were executing that would solve this case. I no longer have faith in that. This case is cold. That is very disturbing to me, but obviously, whoever took Kyron is very lucky and planned this so well, MCSO cannot solve this case. I really wish that MCSO would admit that to Desiree Young. I think they’ve strung her along and she has suffered enough. Please MCSO, tell Desiree that you have no intentions of charging Terri, because the SA doesn’t think he can get a conviction 100%. That’s what it boils down to – ego or incompetence. Take your pick.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you TJ - they gave TH a free pass and free ride - they hardly questioned her other than initially and wouldn't even name her as a person of interest even though she supposedly was the last to see Kyron, couldn't remember exactly where she was the same day she was asked, supposedly was involved with a landscaper in some way, stayed out of her house for five hours after dropping Kyron off at school yet had a sick child with her, and showed deception on her poly. For other cases LE really questions and questions potential suspects and others around them but they seem to have worn kid gloves in this case - why? Teachers union too powerful in that area? Why did they blow Tanner's account off? He at least remembered something unlike TH. Did they fully investigate all the family including step relations? Someone left with Kyron that day and several people know - and this case should have been broken before now. K
ReplyDeleteThanks TJ for spelling it all out in no uncertain terms...
ReplyDeletewe have a little saying where I come from with regards to the EGO and it characterizes it as an acronym rather than a word -
EGO = 'Easing God Out"
"Stay the course and trust the authorities"??? I will say, True Nelson, you do have a sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteHow this investigation of a child being missing is going to turn out none of us know yet - will he be found alive or his remains or never found; was TH involved or wasn't she; was there a pedophile at that school or one who went to the Science Fair in search of a victim; was this a 'pay-back' crime to one of the four; was he taken by someone involved in a child porn ring ... as far as I'm concerned just how he disappeared and who was responsible is still wide-open.
However this case turns out, I very strongly feel the manner in which this investigation has been handled, along with their questionable unprofessional conduct, by the wonder boys needs to be investigated and they should be held accountable for the mess this investigation has turned into.
Respectully: Oops! Lee Carol has a connection, so he says, to KRYon...not KYRon. Your entry made me curious and I googled Lee Carol. Either your eyes made Kryon into Kyron, or there is another Lee Carol to whom you are referring. If so, please post a link. Thanks.
ReplyDelete"Unprofessional conduct" ? Okay, spill. What was unprofessional, do you work there, or just another pot stirring Teribot?
ReplyDelete1. "reliable sources' for some stories re TH given to the newspaper.
ReplyDelete2. Sharing with the bio-parents who are not law enforcement, as well as knowing they would in turn tell the public via newspapers and other media, information they had gathered in an ongoing investigation on a private citizen (TH and you might throw in on DeDe S.).
3. Holding a Press Conference showing pictures of the white truck parked in a different area at the school 3 months after the incident asking people of anyone remembered seeing it there - imo, that was playing mind games trying to get someone to have 'sudden recall' that would not necessarily be true.
4. Using the bio-parents to keep the finger of guilt publicly pointed at TH while they themselves would not declare her a suspect.
5. Would being unqualified with zilch experience in handling such a serious and major case as a child missing under suspicions circumstances yet insisting on handling that case themselves be considered unprofessional conduct or just plain stupidity?
I agree with the assessment of LE and the SA in this case. And I used to be a HUGE supporter of their efforts...kept thinking they were handling this case brilliantly and we would all understand the reasons for their actions once TH (or whoever) was arrested. But now - at the risk of sounding like a Terribot, which I am NOT - I am starting to feel like they did botch this from the beginning. They did treat her with kid gloves, and put absolutely no pressure on her - in fact, they actually seemed to go in the opposite direction with their initial statements and press conferences.
ReplyDeleteI can see keeping certain evidence close to the vest early on in the case. But that ship has sailed and it is time (long past time) to release what they have and hopefully jog someone's memory of something odd they saw that day.
Enough is enough. The citizens of Portland really need to rise up and demand some accountability. A lot of money was spent, and a lot of promises were made. Is Terri a suspect or not? If she's not, then aren't other children in the community in danger? Seems like an obvious question to me, yet nobody down there seems to be asking it.
Anonymous - yes you are right, if it wasn't TH then LE needs to let the parents at that school know --or at least those parents should demand to know this may have been a "stranger" (I doubt it)..Even the media has done little to pressure authorities, I wonder why - what is in Portland that may be obstructing this case? You would think some investigative shows or Dateline or something would be eager to go down there and interview people and follow the threads themselves to get some answers. K
ReplyDeleteI can't believe all the kooks who still believe everything they read about Terri or the investigation the past 1-1/3 years. Nothing the media has printed about Terri has come from a reliable source yet the kooks still believe every word of it like it's gospel.
ReplyDeleteHow much would a recent picture of Terri with Kiara be worth? Quite sure the kooks will claim it was photoshopped just like they did with Kyron's picture.
Oh: Kyron's wanted a black pickup truck so daddy went and bought one because "Kyron would have wanted that".
Get real people, you've been played.
When you can't have a discussion based on your opinion then you resort to calling people kooks for thinking TM might have had something to do with Kyron's disappearance. No one has been played except Kyron. K
ReplyDeleteproduce the photo of Terri with the baby and put the jerry springer show to rest already...
ReplyDeletewhat...no photo?
ReplyDeleteas I suspected...
or rather we should suspect you
of continually casting shadows
on inconceivably dim desires
for kyron to be found.
do us all a favor
and quit pissing in the apple juice.
Kryon Horman disappeared into the basement or down the stairs of the school after his step mother left the building that day. who was down there and what was this experiment exhibit that the witness boy said was down the stairs? Insiders at the school knew where security cameras or the camera was that day not the visitors to the school, The old school website was strange because almost all the boys in the pictures were wearing glasses like kyron did and the girls in the pictures were more apt not to be wearing glasses. who took those photos and who selected them for the website? Kryon's mother appears to be manic she was not interested in taking care of children nor abducting them that day on her wild ride and she may have had other reasons to lie about her whereabouts and time lines.
