Paul Lindsay, aka Noah Boyd; Marine, FBI Agent, Author - Passed Away on September 1st

I never met Paul.  I wish I had.  I knew of him of course.  It seems that he was a truly remarkable person.

His family posted on the ‘former Agents’ network’ that Paul had died; and added some brief comments about Paul’s life that I think should be more widely circulated.  I hope that they do not mind.  He was 68 at the time of his death.

Professionally speaking, as he himself might say, Paul Lindsay was first and foremost a Marine.  He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star for bravery.

Secondly, he was an Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for more than twenty years – and, reportedly, solved some major and widely publicized crimes.  Another former Agent described him as a cop trapped in an Agent’s suit.

Thirdly, he was an author who utilized the pseudonym Noah Boyd.  He wrote seven novels.  Two are under contract to be made into major motion pictures.

Three of his more notable novels are:  The Bricklayer, Agent X, and Last Chance to Die.  I must admit that I’ve only read The Bricklayer; but it was a fast moving and engrossing ride.

According to the information provided by Paul’s family, he “thought of himself as a literary grifter;” someone who, in his words, “appeals to a publisher’s implicit need for profit rather than producing something of literary merit.”

Paul was not only a courageous and decorated Marine; he was obviously a self-effacing author.

My personal impression of Noah Boyd’s writing is that it is about entertainment.  If you prefer mind-numbing pages of detailed descriptions of a quaint French cafĂ©, perhaps you should look elsewhere.

So long Paul.

  1. Not normally my preferred genre, but I will check my local library for his work. I'm sure it will be great to read an author who possesses so much personal courage.
